My husband took me to dinner at Maple Tree Inn today for my birthday . . . what a disappointment! What can I say--this place has no ambience and the food was lousy on top of it. We were seated in large wingback chairs that were so worn out and dirty--not to mention it was difficult to reach the table. However, we did have a view of the metra train through some very dirty plexiglass windows. After we were left sitting for quite some time, a waitress came by to say we would be getting the last order of oysters for the evening. When we informed her we did not order oysters or had not talk to a waitress yet, she proceeded to argue the point with us back and forth. I ordered a blended drink to which she replied they could not do--no blender? The food from the gumbo soup, the swimming in grease barbecue shrimp on pasta, to the dessert was horrible! There are too many other good restaurants out there in this price point . . . whatever you do, DON'T CHOOSE MAPLETREE INN!

I'm sort of what you'd call a townie. I'm not actually from Blue Island, but I grew up just east of there, so I've earned the right to consider myself a local. Anyway... I've loved Maple Tree Inn for EVER!!! (Does anybody know what they were called before they were Maple Tree Inn? I do!!!)The only issue I have is what that show Check Please! did. They told EVERYBODY about the favorite spot of locals like myself. Friends and I used to be able to go in anytime and find a seat... now there's a wait. Oh well, thank goodness that they have plenty fabulous beers on tap to while away the time!!! And even with the crowds they get, you're still encouraged to "Sit Long.. Talk Much"

Easily the best bar in the south suburbs. Multiple unexpected beers on tap. They also carry the full line of Three Floyds at all times. Great old bar off the beaten path on Old Western Ave. You have to go over the overpass and turn right at the bottom. Killer cajun food. Especially creepy at halloween. Hard to believe a place like this exists in this location. Really a great find.

This could be one of the best kept secrets south of Chicago. You just don't find a selection of beers like this south of the city. If any of you out-of-towners are out this way, The Maple Tree is a must stop for beer. Really tough to find but well worth it.

It's nice to have a place on the south side which actually has something other than Bud and Miller Lite available. I find the whole Cajun theme a little incompatible with the space, but the food was very good and I got turned on to yet another great Three Floyds beer- Pride & Joy! Excellent selection, nice dark bar. I live in Denver now, but grew up in Flossmoor and still visit all the time. Good to see a place like this doing well.

THIS ESTABLISHMENT IS WELL WORTH THE EXTRA EFFORT IN FINDING IT, IF YOUR NOT A SOUTH SIDER. AS YOU ENTER, YOUR OVERWHELMED BY AN OUTSTANDING BACKBAR THAT SETS THE TONE FOR GREAT THINGS TO COME. THE CAJUN CUISINE IS VERY AUTHENTIC, WITH ALOT OF VARIETY TO CHOSE FROM & THE SAME GOES DOUBLY FOR THRE OUTSTANDING SELECTION OF BEERS. NOWHERE ON THE SOUTHSIDE DO YOU COME CLOSE TO FINDING OVER 25 DIFFERENT LAGERS & ALES ON TAP, WITH AN OUTSTANDING SELECTION OF LOCAL MICROS, LIKE FLOSSMOOR STATION & THREE FLOYDS, AS WELL MANY FROM WISCONSIN. YOU SHOULD ALSO CHECK OUT THERE SISTER RESTRAUNT ACROSS THE STREET, SNAKER JAKES, WHICH HAS SOME GREAT BBQ SELECTIONS, AS WELL MANY GREAT BEERS TO CHOSE FROM, ALSO!

Finally went there! This is a well known but out of the way place on the southwest side. Great New Orleans type cuisine (couldn't help it, had gumbo AND jambalaya). Beautiful bar room. The really beautiful thing here is the great selection of tap handles, mostly from midwestern breweries. Three Floyds is featured, and they even had FFFs Behemoth barleywine. WOW! Other notables at this time were SNCA, Anchor Old Foghorn, Rogue Dead Guy. I think they have a good selection of Belgians too, just not now. Live jazz on the porch. A real NO MISS.
